An e-mail signature block that block of text that appears at the end of an e-mail. They are usually added automatically as soon as a new e-mail is created. The different e-mail providers all have different ways on how to add a signature block, but a Google search will quickly find a tutorial to show you how it is done.
E-mail signatures contain information about the sender of the email such as their name, their postion, (for example: Senior Manager at CountryBank) as well as their contact details. They are becoming quite common these days and it is a good idea to create your own signature block.
Four reasons why you should have a signature block:
1. Your e-mails will look more professional
More and more business are being conducted through e-mails. If you have a signature block on the e-mails that you send, you will be perceived as a professional individual who cares about her image.
Erich person would you rather do business with? Somebody who signs her e-mails: “See ya later. Sally” or somebody who ends her e-mails: “Sally McGraw. Certified technical writer and SEO expert”. In the second example you can see immediately what Sally does and that she projects a strong and clear image.
2. Your contact details are easily available
By adding your contact details in your signature block, you make it so much easier to be contacted. Friends, acquaintances and colleagues do not have to go and look up your phone number, it is right there at the end of your e-mail.
3. You can generate links to your website
When you add the URL to your blog or web site in your signature block, you will definitely receive visits. People are curious about other people. They want to see your photo, what you have to say and what you do.
4. A signature block is a great marketing tool
Just think about it, by adding a few lines at the end of your e-mails, you are telling the world what you do (bank manager, technical writer, etc.) how they can contact you (phone numbers) and where to find more information about you (the URL).
Add a signature block to your e-mails as soon as possible. We send e-mails daily to friends, co-workers, Internet groups etc. and you never know when a potential client may just decide to contact you.
