For one reason or the other, nowadays everyone wants to lose weight; and though you may feel very comfortable with your current weight, sometimes it is worth deciding to shed a few pounds simply because of the surprisingly many advantages that having a slightly lower weight can offer you.
Below are a few of the most important reasons why it is worth deciding to lose a few pounds:
1. Reinforced self-confidence and self-esteem.
Losing a few pounds can bring you closer to your ideal weight and this will make you feel a lot better about your body. You may find that you can wear clothes that no longer fitted you or that you can go for styles that didn’t flatter you before. You will also feel more attractive, be more comfortable in your own skin and have more confidence around the opposite sex.
2. Looking more slender and attractive.
Though it may not seem like a lot, just a couple of pounds can make a world of difference, as they can minimize your problem areas and make you look more slender overall. With the little effort it takes to gradually shed a few pounds in a healthy way, you can enjoy the benefits of having a more defined silhouette and a more attractive body in general.
3. Lowering your risk of developing various diseases.
The more extra fat you’re carrying, the higher your chances to develop serious physical conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis and even cancer. Being over your ideal weight can also cause psychological consequences such as depression, low self-esteem or eating disorders. By shedding a few pounds each time your BMI reaches the overweight levels (25–29.9), you will maintain a healthier weight throughout your lifetime and reduce your risk of ever becoming obese.
4. Relieving various preexisting conditions.
If you already have any of the diseases mentioned above, shedding a few extra pounds can make a tremendous difference to your health and well-being. It can help you improve your energy level and the quality of your sleep; lower your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels; increase your physical endurance; and improve the quality of your life overall.
Considering the many added health benefits and the renewed feeling of self-confidence you can achieve by shedding a few pounds, the only question that still remains is: what are you waiting for?
