Has God abandoned America?

Has God abandoned America? Interesting question, but I believe it is backwards. Has God abandoned America or has America abandoned God? To see what I am putting forth we must go to the revelation of God and His work in the world, the Bible.

We read in the book of Genesis that when Adam and Eve sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit that God did not abandon them, He cursed the ground and said that Adam would have to work to get the land to produce and Eve would have her sorrow multiplied in childbirth. The serpent was cursed above all the animals. But in the midst of this dialogue God provided the first glimpse of salvation when He stated that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the seed of the serpent and the serpent would bruise the heal of her seed. God did not abandon them but He did bring about judgment.

The reading of the Old Testament will reveal that God deals with His people by revealing Himself to them, calling them His people, leading and protecting them, and then when they begin to turn their back to Him He will warn them and start slowly bringing judgment on them and then finally turning them over to intense judgment or discipline. He never abandons His people, but He does discipline or judges them, to bring them back to a life of fellowship with Him.

What seems to be a problem with people saying God abandoned them or the nation, is their perception of God. The perception that God is love and will not judge His people or a nation for the evil that they do is false and not biblical. The Bible is very firm on the fact that God will judge according to His Holiness, which is where the laws stated come. He is a loving God, yet He is also a righteous God who has to judge the evil or sin in His creation. This can be seen in this verse, 2 Chronicles 7:14,  “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”. This verse shows that God is always present waiting for the wayward to call upon Him for deliverance and He will answer.

I strongly believe that this country is headed for judgment. Some may ask why I believe that. Well take into account all the abortions that are committed in this country every year. The acceptance of same-sex marriage, gay clergy plus the gay parades in cities across the nation, which all goes against the Bible. The proliferation of pornography,
