When I read the other article posted, I was a little upset considering labels such as "emo" are very misleading. To make a generalization stating the "emo" culture does drugs and drinks is a generalization that can go for any label. Preps, skaters, and yes, even nerds drink and do drugs. So is it really fair to single out "emos"?
It was not too long ago I was in highschool and yes, I suppose you could consider me an "emo". I wear my hair infront of one eye and studded belts. But I don't do it to be "emo". I do it because I think the clothes are cute, not because I am going with the crowd or because I wish to be classified.
When it comes down to it, there are only a few differences that might worry people about us "emos". Yea, we get piercings and tattoos but it's not like the emo jokes go; we don't do it for the pain. We endure the pain so we can do something we want. We also wear dark clothes and dye our hair. So what! I don't know very many women or men for that matter who don't dye their hair. As for the dark clothes, very few "emo" people really dress in the stereotypical black on black. Now days its strips and bright clothing that doesn't quite match, but somehow looks trendy.
There is no reason to worry about the "emo" culture. If you ask me, everybody has a little "emo" in them. "Emo" is just short for emotional and if you don't have emotions, chances are you aren't human.
