I've been driving for 16 years. When I was younger I had no problems with teaching someone how to drive. Just put them behind the wheel on a country road and let them go and give advice. No problem. If I was teaching them to drive a stick shift I would take them to a school parking lot on a weekend when there was no cars around.
In the last 5 years I had to teach my step-son to drive on an old dodge pick up with a tempermental stick shift. At the time I was pregnant and his dad wasnt always around when I needed him and the town we lived in was a good 15 minutes away from the closest hospital. I wanted to make sure there was someone in my house hold that could drive incase I went into labor and the dad wasnt home to take me. We didnt even have a phone at that time.
But little did I know that his dad had showed him how to drive when he was about 10 years old and had been letting him drive on the back country roads all of this time. I had been really nervous about teaching him to drive but I was really impressed at how well he was able to handle the old truck. And I didnt have to worry about needing a ride. Dad was there when I went into labor.
Know my 9 year old will be wanting to learn to drive in a few years and i'm even more nervous about that because he is ADHD. lol
I guess teaching a person to drive, know matter how you go about it will always be an adventure. I'll never forget the first time I got behind a wheel. I probably never will, and i'm sure most of you wont.
All I have to say about teaching someone is.. have fun, be careful and hang on.
It's and adventure. That's the way life is suspose to be.
