Poetry: Forests

The rushing rivers falling fast
From mountains fury high,
Cut deeply into ages past
Where fossil forests lie.

Enshrined as primal life turned bone
These ancient titans proud
Lie side by side yet still alone;
A stone-honed silent shroud.

The brachiopods and triliobites
Did flourish once but fate
Condemned them deep to darkest night
As salt-bed depths turned slate.

They cling to iron limb and root,
Their pose a prideful crown.
Pre-cambrian great fires turned soot
As trees began to drown.

Illusion of great time will flee
When first one's gaze is cast
Upon eternal euology
To whispered grandeur past.

As trees of stone succumbed to sea
No human soul was there
To share this somber majesty
Now made majestic prayer.

Primordal wisdom speaks great truth
As it refines the mind
Till Man can see his common youth
Within this timeless shrine.
