Small business ideas for the entrepreneur

by Murray Lunn

Created on: October 11, 2010

How many ideas could you think of in a day that could become a business? Surprisingly, in the modern world of the internet nearly every perceivable idea is viable to earn you a profit offline and online. Small businesses startup every day – some good, some bad – either way, it shows that with drive an entrepreneur can turn an interest or hobby into a viable source of income.

If you’re stumped on your own ideas to start a small business, consider a few of these suggestions to get you started with your own entrepreneurial goals. The ideas below are more concept than actual business ideas; this way, you can take each and adapt them to your own dreams.

♦ Create a shop (online or offline)

The first idea is one of the most basic but also one of the most profitable: open your own store. Offering physical products is a great small business idea because they will always be in demand; if you offer a product the market wants you can be sure you’re going to turn a profit. Whether you chose to sell offline or online, you simply have to take initiative to contact manufacturers, create inventory and begin offering your products to the masses.

♦ Sell your services

If you know a particular skill that’s currently in demand or know how to market to create demand, you’re looking a very profitable small business idea. Through years of practice or knowledge, you can take one of your preexisting skills or hobbies and craft it into your own small business. After you’ve found your market, speak their language and create a connection, build authority and claim your niche within the market.

♦ Offer your knowledge or advice

For those that are extremely book smart or full of real-world knowledge, people are ready to pay for your insights to help improve their own lives. Consulting, tutoring or mentoring is very lucrative business models you can begin on whims notice; just find what you’re very knowledgeable at and begin marketing it. If you want to take your knowledge further in business, you can even create your own products that collect all of your courses and market them as a normal product.

♦ Partner with another influential entrepreneur

If you don’t have your own small business idea, perhaps you could work with friend, family member or respected partner in your own quest to create a business. Many great companies were created out of partnerships even when only one of the entrepreneurs had the main idea. The point is that if you can offer the other person skills that take their idea into practicality, you both can benefit from starting your own small business.
