Being a Christian I believe in the teachings of the Bible as being true. I, therefore, live my life by the Ten Commandments, and don’t think there is anything that can be considered Evil that is not covered by them.
There are however, a lot of laws that you could argue as not being specifically mentioned in the Bible (I.E drug taking, vandalism etc) but I believe you can link them back to the Ten Commandments.
Firstly let’s take drug taking. The main reasons that drugs are outlawed are because of Tax Evasion and the Anti-social behaviour that is created by it. In the Bible the tax element is not mentioned because money is man made, and is of no importance for those with faith. On the other hand, drugs drive people to violence and thievery which are both outlawed in the Ten Commandments.
Then there’s vandalism. Vandalism though not mentioned in the Ten Commandments can be attributed to the Commandment, “Love thy neighbour as thyself”. This is according to Jesus the second most important commandment of all, the first being “Love your God with all your heart”.
Any sexual driven laws (IE rape or child porn etc) can be attributed to the commandment “Do not commit adultery”. But even legal porn can be linked to this very same commandment. In fact just looking at somebody’s wife through lustful eyes can be attributed to adultery, so remember this when your looking at some hot celebrity who is married.
There are many modern day laws that we consider being bad, IE drink driving and speeding, which obviously couldn’t have been included in the Ten Commandments when they were conceived. Having said this if you are guilty of these crimes I suppose you are not thinking of others, therefore this can still be loosely linked back to “Love thy neighbour as thyself”.
At the end of the day we all know what is right and wrong, and as long as we live our life by these rules no harm will come of it. Remember that nobody is without sin, but God will forgive everybody who feels remorse for there bad deeds.
The article is obviously aimed at Christians, but if you research any of the main religions they will all say the same thing. So don’t believe what you hear on TV about these crazy Muslims in the middle east, there are crazy Christians all over the place trying to convince you that everybody that doesn’t follow there religion is doomed.
It may be hard to think about in the aftermath of thinks like 9/11 in New York, or 7/7 in London, but remember that Jesus also told us to love our enemies when he said:
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:32-36)
