so in essence the user is receiving a completely new hearing aid. If the hearing loss of the user changes beyond the capabilities of the existing electronics in the aid then they too can be changed and upgraded to the current hearing loss. All of this is available at a lot less expense of buying a new hearing aid. Any feature can always be added to a hearing aid such as a telephone switch or on-off switch or any pot or potentiometer for altering the response curve of the hearing aid such as a tone control,or a high-cut or low-cut pot. Volume control features can be added or removed at any time.Any Custom Made Hearing Aid ever made, including over 25 year old hearing aids, can be upgraded to Digital Signal Processing.Very few people in the hearing aid industry will tell you about these options, and either them, or a lot of manufacturers, refuse to perform these features based on the age of the existing hearing aid and the only logical reason for this is that they want you to buy what they regard is a new hearing aid because there is a lot more profit involved and provided...to them.
Some hearing aid Dealers, such as COSTCO, as a company policy, choose only to repair hearing aids they sell, and also establish time restraints for the type and age of hearing aids they will service, even if in fact they actually sold such hearing aids. This is their policy and they are entitled to create it and live by it. That doesn't mean that the owners and users of such hearing aids don't have the option of taking such hearing aids to independent hearing aid offices who will more than glad to repair and services such hearing aids. The problem in the hearing aid industry is that the owners and user of existing hearing aids are not always aware of their repair and service options, and only know what they are told by their current providers. Like any other product or service, hearing aid owners snd users, or at least concerned members of their family, should shop around, compare prices, policies, and services, to make sure they are being told the truth and being informed of what the options are in the ownership, usage, and service of hearing aids.
