UberTwitter is both a company name and the name of an application that allows users of the popular social networking site Twitter, access their accounts and send and receive "tweets" from their BlackBerry smartphone.
Released in 2009, UberTwitter is now one of the more popular Twitter Applications for BlackBerry smartphones. You can either download the free application, which includes a small text-based advert at the top of the screen, or you can pay for the application, which will remove the adverts. I personally don't find these adverts to be intrusive, so I am happy to continue with the free version of this application.
UberTwitter is very easy to use but takes some time to set up; there are a huge amount of options available for you to customise your version of UberTwitter - a whole 25 pages worth!
As there are so many settings, I will only discuss a few of them:
Google Talk Status: With this setting, you can set your Google Talk Status to whatever you last Tweeted. All you will have to do is enter your GTalk username and password.
Geotagging: This allows you to send your location alongside your Tweet.
Timeline Font: This is the font you'll see from other people's Tweets.
Tweet Composition Font: This is the font you'll see when you are writing out a Tweet.
Automatic Timeline Refreshes: This can severely drain your battery if you set UberTwitter to look for new Tweets too often. I've set mine to refresh every 30 minutes but to automatically refresh when I reopen the UberTwitter application.
Timeline Layout Style: You can have either bubble or bar; the bubble option makes it look like each Tweet has a speech bubble next to it.
Theme Settings: You can change the colour of UberTwitter. Currently, there are six colours to choose from or a nature theme.
Uber Bar Options: This is the bar that goes along the top of the screen while you are viewing the UberTwitter application. You can set it to show up all of the time or just when you need it to.
Alerts: From here, you can tell your BlackBerry smartphone to alert you of any new Direct Messages, Reply or @Mention and any new Tweets at all.
Visual Notifications: This is when your UberTwitter icon will show up on your home screen, even if you haven't got UberTwitter open, whenever you receive new Direct Messages, Tweets, Replies or @Mentions.
From the main screen (the Tweet timeline), if you press the BlackBerry Menu button, you can choose to create a new Tweet or interact with the Tweet you've selected; you can ReTweet
