Restaurant reviews: Cafe Kor, Budapest, Hungary

I would like to offer you a very nice restaurant in Budapest. Still not my favourite one but they offer really delicious meals and the restaurant is situated in a very nice area in the heart of the city.

Location

-

Café Kör is situated in the bank quarter of the city; most of the big banks have their headquarters in the neighbouring streets. There are loads of young people in suits hurrying somewhere in the afternoons. The restaurant is walking distance from Arany János utca metro station or Lánchíd over the Danube. There are fabulous old buildings in the streets however there are some new modern office buildings which don’t really fit in the atmosphere of the area. I prefer the old buildings of course. They are beautifully decorated and have history.

Café Kör is situated in 17 Sas utca. The sign of the restaurant can be observed quikly. By the way Kör means Circle, so you will find loads of round things in this restaurant. Even their sign is a circle…

The restaurant

The management of the restaurant wanted to do something different and new and I have to admit that they did. They have a very polite staff that speaks foreign languages. They are really helpful and kind. The restaurant has a very inviting atmosphere and the decoration is nice and simple.

Overall the décor of the restaurant reminds me to French cafés as it is airy, the decoration is minimal but warm and comfortable.

My visit

-

I was invited for a dinner in this restaurant by one of my former bosses. She is aware of all the posh restaurants and cafés in Budapest. However she selected the location I have to admit it was a good decision. There was nice music in the background which wasn’t too loud so we could speak. The tables are not too close to each other.

We booked a table in advance as the restaurant is quite busy. Once you tried their dishes you feel tempted to return and try something else next time. When I was there I had salad with grilled fresh cheese. I haven’t eaten such delicious cheese since then. It was divine. I had a glass of Chardonnay as it’s my favourite wine and my dinner was perfect. Everything was delicious and the portion was big and filling.

Menu

-

However they have a fix menu they have a very wide range daily offer too. Due to its location this restaurant offers breakfast too. It opens at 10 o’clock and you can have ham and eggs, scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs,
