For Easter I brought my granddaughters a bag of the smallest Lindt bunnies as well as a larger one each. I am a big fan of Lindt chocolate but have never tried one of their lovely looking bunnies. There was one sitting in my bread bin this morning that had obviously been hidden by one of the girls and forgotten about, I was in the mood for a bit of chocolate so settled down with a cup of tea to eat my bunny.
I love my bunny even before I unwrap him. He is wrapped in a lustrous gold foil and has a little red ribbon around his neck, it isn't an actual ribbon but is painted on the foil with the bunny's eyes and features. The larger bunny has a real ribbon around his neck that is adorned with a small golden bell, a lovely touch to such a beautiful looking chocolate. A Lindt bunny looks like a typical drawing of a bunny sitting on all fours and looking as cute as possible. It is with a touch of regret that I unwrap him because I know he is going to taste lovely but I do feel terribly mean destroying this sweet looking little thing.
I do unwrap him though and underneath the foil is a beautifully carved chocolate bunny. As soon as the foil starts coming off you will immediately smell the delicious scent of Lindt chocolate, it is a strong milk chocolate smell which is guaranteed to make your mouth water. The bunnys ears, face and legs are carved into the chocolate and this makes it look 3D and really helps it to look like a real rabbit.
The most obvious place to start is by biting off the bunny's ears. The chocolate is delightfully thick, in fact it's quite hard to bite due to how thick it is. I bit half of the ears off this little Lindt bunny and this was a perfect mouthful of chocolate. Do not forget this bunny is only about 2 inches long so I was not being greedy biting so much off in one go!
Lindt is my very favourite chocolate but I was rather disappointed by the taste of the milk chocolate used for the bunny. It is nice and rich but for me it lacks the Lindt 'something' to make it extra special. Let me try to describe the chocolate to you. It is rich and creamy as all good milk chocolate should be and has a lovely smooth texture. As with most Lindt chocolate it starts to melt as soon as you place it in your mouth and the sweetness of the chocolate intensifies as it melts. I cannot put my finger on why it is not as good as other Lindt chocolate, but part of it is because this bunny has a slightly greasy taste that quickly made me feel a little bit sick.
I ate the whole bunny in about 5 mouthfuls and really enjoyed him. When I said above that I was disappointed I do not mean that I didn't think the bunny was a delicious chocolate treat because it was. The bunny was so incredibly sickly however that I simply couldn't eat one mouthful more than a small bunny - how my grandaughter ate a huge bunny in one sitting I'll never know. There are roughly 300 calories in this little bunny which is a bit high, but it is not something designed to be eaten all the time so don't worry about it! A small bag of five or six bunnies will cost around £5, which is actually fairly good value as individually they cost between £1.49 and £1.99 depending on where you shop.
