Having your wedding gifts stolen right out from under your nose on your own wedding day is not something that most brides want to think about. These are your wedding guests - the people who are supposed to love and support you and your spouse. And you never want to blame the employees who are working at your wedding - these are the people you trusted and are paying a lot of money to, to boot. But unfortunately, the sad fact of the matter is that things like this can and do happen much more frequently than you might want to think about. But the good news is, taking a few precautions and putting someone you trust in charge of your gifts can be the key to loss prevention at your wedding.
Common practice today is to have a place for people to put cards addressed to the newly married couple on the table along with the guest list. It is not typically considered proper etiquette to bring a physical gift with you to the wedding. If you have purchased a gift for the bride and groom, you are supposed to send that gift to their home rather than bring it with you. But many people do not abide by these rules and so it is a good idea to have someone manning the table when people drop off gifts. Someone close to the bride and groom should be in charge of moving the gifts from the table to the bride and groom's car so that there is less for the married couple to worry about at the end of the night.
In terms of cards, most guests will want to bring a card congratulating the newly married couple and wishing them well. Many people will include a monetary gift with the card and you want them to feel confident that their gift is safe when they drop it off. One option is to have a decorative box with a slot at the top for people to slip their cards into so that the cards cannot be removed after the fact without causing a bit of a commotion. You might also want to ask the person supervising the guest book or a trusted member of the bridal party to just kind of keep an eye on the area and make sure that there is nobody hanging out over there when they should not be.
