Wow, talk about a misleading question! First off, the seven deadly sins aren`t actions or things to do or not do, like the Ten Commandments. The seven deadly sins (Lust, greed, gluttony, jealousy, hate, envy, anger) are different types of the sinful nature that all humans are born into. This is not to say we are born evil, but we all have our little mannerisms that drive us to sin. The question we must all face is how do we deal with these.
Most of what is mentioned in this article paraphrases verses in Proverbs.... I will look them up in greater detail in the futur
Each of the Seven risk the danger of bringing one into a state of suffering. Thing to remember here is that God loves us and does not want us to suffer because of that love.
Take for example gluttony. This one is probably the most mis-understood simply because most people over simplify it to just "too much eating". Where the original meaning was much broader, as in "too much of ANYTHING". Could be too much clutter in the house. Maybe too many magazines. Or in my case, too much caffein. This is not to say that drinking coffee is evil, but too much is not good for my (or anyone`s) health.
Second example, Lust. This is another that has been messed up in the meaning by popular culture. This is not to imply that sex is bad, but to imply the use of it only for self gratification is damaging and can bring about many forms of problems.
Then there`s Greed. This one many of us can relate to simply because everyone I`ve met has at one time or other dreamt of having more money! We say to ourselves, "If I had more money, I'd buy a boat or a fancy car or a plane or a mansion or tons of jewelry" and the list goes on. The type of suffering that this can bring is that if we spend all our time dreaming and fantasizing about the stuff we may never afford to have nor actually need; we'll miss out on enjoying the many blessings we DO have and ignore the things we do actually NEED.
The fourth and fifth are Jealousy and envy. How many friendships have ended simply because one was better off than the other (or atleast in the perception of the other)? Again "I am jealous of his new car." doesn`t make me a sinner, but if I let that jealousy control my thoughts and prevent me from being happy with the car that I do have, then this jealousy makes my life a living hell. This being said, if my noticing my neighbour`s
