How to use MySpace to promote yourself and make money

If you want to promote yourself on myspace -and make money from your efforts- take the time to build a strong network. Approach myspace networking like you would approach any other business, by identifying a target market and gearing your efforts toward that market.

Avoid Beginners Mistakes

Many inexperienced entreprenuers jump into myspace promotion with the idea that as long as they have a large network, they are bound to make money. This concept may sound correct, in theory, but in truth even if you have a million friends in your network, if they are wrong for your specific business, you may waste a lot of time and energy, but you most likely won't make any money. Instead of adding every random  person who comes along to your network, spend some time doing demographical research. Identify your target audience and develop material geared to those people.

Use the "Find Friends" Search Tools to Help Build the Right Kind of Network

Myspace allows you to search for people by entering a variety of different search terms.  Select friends based on age, location, gender or by doing keyword searches to identify interests. Once you have identified your target market, search for people who will most likely be interest in what you are promoting and add them to your network. Bu building your network in this way, rather than by adding every person who comes along,  you make your  own efforts more rewarding and increase your chances of being successful.

Don't Be a Myspace Sales Man

Random spamming of people's inboxes is not a good way to promote yourself on myspace. Unsolicited sales pitches and intensive spamming can get you banned from the site as well. While many people choose to use the bulletin feature for this purpose, it is also not an effective way to promote yourself.  Instead of becoming an annoying spammer, use your personal blog to post information and updates. Keep blogs short, timely and useful for the reader. Create blogs that teach the reader something or  help them in some way. This keeps visitors coming back on a regular basis. Use bulletins and activity. alerts to let people know when you post new material on your blog.

Share Links and Promote Others

Build working partnerships with like-minded others on myspace. Offer to post  links to other people's blogs and ask them to post a link to yours in return.  These kinds of working partnerships can help increase your success and help you develop a good reputation on the site.
