Glitches and cheats for Pokemon red, blue and yellow

The Pokemon series is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world, and the original Red, Blue and Yellow games are still extremely popular, so it is no surprise that people have to tried to find a way to exploit the game in order to make it easier to complete, as the game requires many hours of game play to complete. Over time there were several glitches discovered, and were used by many people.

Perhaps the most popular glitch of the original Pokemon games was the Missingno glitch. This glitch allowed you to duplicate items, and was therefore also known as the Rare Candy glitch, as people would exploit this glitch to get an infinite amount of rare candies, used to level up Pokemon. This glitch was exploited greatly in the Red and Blue games, and Nintendo managed to correct the glitch by the time they released Pokemon Yellow.

The glitch requires you to have a few things; a Pokemon that knows fly, a Pokemon that knows surf, and the badge that allows you to use it outside of battle, as well as the item you wish to duplicate. Without these items it is impossible to exploit the glitch.

To perform the glitch you must fly to Viridian City and walk north, you will meet a man who asks if you want to know how to catch Pokemon, when he asks say yes and let him show you how to catch one. Once you have done this fly to Cinnabar Island and walk right until you reach the coastline. Open your items and move the item you wish to duplicate to 6th on your list. While this can be anything, the most popular items to duplicate are things such as Rare Candies and Master Balls, as they are extremely rare.

Once you have done this, surf up and down the island where the land meets the water until you are taken into a battle with a Pokemon known as Missingno. The Pokemon will appear as a mess a sprites, and will range from between Level 0 and Level 250; all you have to do is beat him. However, you should never catch Missingno, are there is a very high possibility that it will ruin the game cartridge.

The other glitch is known as the duplicate glitch, and can be use on Red, Blue and Yellow. This glitch can be used at any point in the game and does not require anything other than a Pokemon and space in your PC. To do this glitch, first select the Pokemon you wish to duplicate and choose to place it in your PC storage facility. Alternatively you can choose to move a Pokemon from one box to another. When depositing or moving a Pokemon to the computer, the game requires you to save the game. Turning off the game mid save will cause the game to save your Pokemon in the PC, as well as keeping it in your team, meaning you will now have two of the same Pokemon.

The glitch is not without its risks. Performing this glitch may cause the game to delete the Pokemon completely, which may be disastrous if it is a high level and/or rare Pokemon. However, the success rate of this glitch is much higher than the rate of failure, but it is still probably wise to take note of this risk before performing it.
