The Sony Dash is a personal internet viewer from the Japanese technological giants at Sony, which allows the internet to be viewed anywhere at any time as long as a Wi-Fi connection is present. It places your internet world at your finger tips with a touch screen device. However, unlike portable devices like the iPad, the Sony Dash is more like a wireless control panel to be accessed anywhere around the house as it is best utilised if standing on something like a sideboard. For this reason, it has been referred to as an alarm clock by many reviewers.
Nevertheless, the device provides access to everything in an individual’s internet world, providing one thousand free applications which can be used on the device. So, which of these applications, are the best? Well that really depends upon the individual, but here are some of the apps which seem to be the most practical and useful.
The most popular applications are likely to be those which are used by almost everyone who has an internet connection, the social networking applications like Facebook or Twitter. However, the device can only be used to read such pages, meaning that you can’t add any more information or photos from the Sony Dash. The same applies for all of the applications, so that again with email, accounts can be accessed through apps such as G-Mail, but no replies to the emails can be sent from the Sony Dash. On the plus side however, various applications can be used at the same time so that whilst surfing the net music can also be listened to as an example.
Perhaps more practical in view of the fact that the Sony Dash is more like a desktop display screen, will be the ability to use the device like a television in the kitchen, streaming your favourite chef programs as you follow along, or just for general entertainment whilst cooking. Once such app is Martha’s Everyday Food, bringing you recipes from Martha Stewart.
Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment also provide exclusive applications which will show movie previews, and music videos so that the device can be used as an ever present sort of MTV for music or movie lovers. Combined with Internet Radio, this means that a portable radio or music player can easily be taken to every room of the house for whatever you’re doing.
Some of the most useful applications, particularly if the Dash is used as an alarm clock will be the ability
