I walked out the front door of my childhood home and pulled the door shut behind myself. As I did, a feeling or sense of deep loss had fulfilled me. I had not been expecting this. In fact, I was itching to leave this place I had lived in my whole life. I wanted to be rid of it forever and find my own path in life, create my own memories and not those of my parents creation.
Suddenly, memories had come flooding back to me, putting a smile on my now thoughtful face. So much had happened here in this house that I had now come to realise that this house was my life, my home and now I was leaving it, for good. I waled up the drive way but before I walked down the street and away for good, I turned to look at the now empty home and wondered if I had made the right decision.
It was time to be an adult. To move on in life and, like I said, to create my own memories. I Smiled once more, leaving with the best memories that I would have and to me, that was enough.
