Guidelines and limits to Christian witness

Tell It Like It Is: Who is the Lord?!

Many people believe that to be a Christian Witness one must give and give and…and they give. The problem with this is they give too much. In the process of being a witness to Christ, they send people running in the opposite direction. Some evangelist wannabes come running up to people with bibles in hand, in Sunday dress, ready to tread their victims down with gospel truths. We’ve all heard stories about people shouting, “You’ll go to hell a sinner unless…” It sounds ridiculous doesn’t it, but it’s true!

Witnessing is important. But it is important to remain true to the truth. It is important you do not make up stories and fantastical lies. I do not recommend you corner people on the street and demand their attention, although sometimes this is a good idea. If you hear the voice of God loudly and clearly, and He provides you a word for someone, then approach them in a practical and appropriate manner. There is a reason some Christians get a reputation for performing untoward acts.

Some people approach people by criticizing them. This is not the best way to convert a non-Christian. Do not boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before, and should never go again. To be a Christian witness does not require you take the lives of the innocent. You want to give life! Nor does it require you put on battle armor and charge into a satanic dance camp. Although that may be cause for celebration!

The Act: Witnessing

The act of Christian witnessing is a simple act, one done in sincerity, most of the time, when the opportunity arises. Many people find Jesus at times in their life when they hit rock bottom. Jesus knocks and knocks and knocks, but we never open the door. In fact, we bolt it shut. Until, one day, life becomes so unbearable, so awful, and so chaotic…that disaster strikes.

Perhaps someone loses a loved one, a house, gets a divorce, or loses a job…and/or all of the above. They may lose their own health, their sense of direction. They may surface from a lifetime of abuse and self-centeredness wondering, “What next?”

At some point, typically during midlife, many people come up for air and realize they want more from life than sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Unfortunately, this is a very risky time of life. This is the point in life when Satan lines up his armies to pounce and plunder many innocent victims. He taunts them with more lies
