Autism is not overdiagnosed. In fact, Autism is an epidemic at this time, and it is reaching epic proportions. The Autism epidemic is far worse than the polio epidemic of olden times. In those days, all the mothers marched and a cure was discovered. Such spectacular measures on the part of parents of children with Autism are now becoming commonplace.
Exposure to Toxin
Children in today's world are far more exposed to toxin than those of past times. Exposure to pesticides and chemicals in the air and water are now common, but these are not at all healthy situations for children. Also, many toys and household items possess toxic substances that children are coming into contact with through their mouths and nostrils. The quality of today's food is often questionable due to artificial colors, flavors and poison sprayed on fresh produce. These are circumstances that are neurotoxic and unhealthful for the developing brains of children.
Very Intense Vaccination Schedules
These days, children are given far more vaccines than they were administered in the past. In a way, this is good, as it stops the spread of many life threatening diseases and conditions. On the negative side however, many children are being "hit" with far too many live viruses at the same time. It is quite possible that the immune systems of some children are unable to handle this onslaught of too many live viruses at the same time.
Routine Use of Antibiotics
In days past, children were not given all that many antibiotics. If anything, they were just given a single shot of penicillin. These days however, it is normal for children to be given course after course of powerful antibiotics. These antibiotics "kill" the bad within the system, but they do the very same thing to all that is good within the immune system of the developing child. This can have consequences that are as yet unmeasured. It should not be forgotten that antibiotics are very powerful and should not be constantly used every month.
The above are some of the reasons why there may be rampant epidemic of autism at this time. The very intense vaccination schedules, along with routine use of antibiotics and far too many toxin in the environment are possible factors in the increased prevalence of Autism. Therefore, Autism is not being overdiagnosed. There is simply more Autism now than in the past.
