He stood silent in the trees behind her. The inky darkness blended him with the night, and it made him feel powerful and strong. Watching her from the shadows and knowing she was so close seemed to soothe his ravaged soul.
A brief gust of wind blew through and rustled the branches above. She raised her head from her book and turned toward him, for a moment he thought she saw him, but she went back to studying and he quietly released his breath. Something furry brushed his leg but he dared not move.
He wondered how she would react if she knew he was a mere two feet from her, inhaling her sweet, honeyed scent. He was close enough to reach out and caress her silken skin but it was not time for their chance meeting, not yet. Everything had to be perfect. Their first meeting would be magical.
The moment he laid his eyes upon his sweet Melissa, he knew she was meant to be his and they would be together always.
He knew everything about her, from the flavor of toothpaste she used, to the name of her first puppy “Bongo”. She loved daisies, hated chocolate, but practically lived on cherry lifesavers.
Her studies were very important to her, and he found it very adorable the way she furrowed her brow and rubbed her temples when she was trying to solve a problem. She was very intelligent and he knew they would have wonderfully heated debates and lively conversations for many years to come.
He watched her as she started to gather her things. He couldn’t believe she was leaving already, the weekend was coming and he might not see her again for days. He knew that tonight was the night. She would make the perfect wife; she would never leave him, not like the others. He took a deep shaky breath and stepped out of the shadows………
