Voluminous hair

When it comes to getting volume into the hair, the two key words you need to remember are body and movement.  Movement is very important when it comes to adding volume to your hair. If your hair has no natural movement in it then it will look stiff and helmet like and you will look as though you have stepped straight out of the 80's!

But there are ways to introduce volume into your hair without making it look like a helmet.

The first thing you will need to do is wash your hair in a shampoo and conditioner that are specifically designed to add volume to the hair. These will temporarily thicken the hair shaft and help introduce volume into your hair. They are very light and so they will not weigh the hair down like many other shampoos and conditioners will.

After you have washed your hair you should use a product that is designed to help give you more body and volume in your hair. Make sure the product is light as if it is too heavy then it will weigh the hair down and make it look flat and dull. Add it to the roots of your hair. This is where you will need the volume. If you want to add anything to the lengths and ends of your hair then use a thickening solution. This will make the hair shaft appear thicker which will make your hair look as though it has more body.

Wait until your hair is almost dry to add these products. If you add them to wet hair then the excess water will dilute them which will make them less effective.

Many people think that in order to add volume to your hair you must blow dry it with your head upside down. This will add volume but it will not give you any movement. The best way to blow dry your hair is to take sections of your hair and lift them up. Blow dry the roots and the lengths whilst your hair is still lifted up. This will give you natural body and movement.

Make sure your hair is totally dry because any moisture will cause it to fall. Set your style with a blast of cold air from the blow dryer.

If you do find that your hair falls throughout the day or evening then simply add a small amount of volumising spray into your hands, turn your head upside down and rub it into your hair and scrunch it underneath to restore your volume.
