Money is tight for many couples putting a limit on the amount that can be spent on romantic evenings. With a little creative thinking, those special times don't have to be a thing of the past. These fun ideas are great for everyone looking to save some cash without cheapening time spent with their significant other. The City of Atlanta is known for its numerous festivals, parades, museums, parks, etc. And the good news is that you can join in on many of these events for free! The list below is not at all an exhaustive list but is an excellent place to start when looking to explore the great City of Atlanta without a price tag.
1) Piedmont Park ~ Pack a picnic and head out to Piedmont Park for the afternoon. The park is located just 2 miles from Downtown Atlanta and boasts gorgeous views of the city skyline. Aside from a small parking fee, Piedmont Park is free to enjoy daily from 6am - 11pm. The park does host some events requiring tickets throughout the year so plan ahead by visiting their website www.piedmontpark.org.
2) Centennial Olympic Park ~ Located within just blocks of the Georgia Aquarium and CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park is a must stop for Atlanta tourists and residents alike. The park offers some regularly scheduled fun activities for free. Head out for a picnic and early afternoon stroll through the park and be sure to enjoy music at noon every Tuesday and Thursday. Music at Noon is a free twice a week event where sounds of local artists fill the park from noon to 1. Another free event offered at the park from May - September is the 4th Saturday Family Fun Days. Held the 4th Saturday of each summer month from noon to 4, visitors can enjoy loads of family fun including contests, prizes, games and even street performers all for free!
3) Museums ~ Several Atlanta musuems offer free admission on certain days each month. Listed below are a few Atlanta musuems offering such admission.
High Museum of Art ~ The High Museum offers free admission on the first Saturday of each month.
The Center for Puppetry Arts Museum offers free admission on Thursday afternoons.
The following attractions are always free year round in Atlanta ~ The Museum of Design, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, The AT&T Telephone Museum and the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum.
4) Here's a fun one! Remember visiting the Georgia State Capital as a kid? Relive this adventure with your loved one and take a tour of the Georgia State Capitol free of charge year round.
5) Volunteer! ~ Ok this may sound more like work than a romantic time but why not give it a try. Couples who volunteer their time together will most likely walk away with a sense of accomplishment after volunteering together. And what better way to learn to appreciate some of the meaningful attributes of your spouse than seeing them in action helping out with the needs of those less fortunate. There are tons of volunteer opportunities in Atlanta including local soup kitchens, food banks, shelters, and the list goes on and on.
