Witnessing Jesus Style
How did Jesus get so many people to follow him, but we can't get many of our friends and family to come to one service. What secret did He have that we somehow cannot seem to grasp. I think the answer is right there in the word, but we as His people chose to do it our own way. When we look at what Jesus did and how He reached the people one theme seems to shine through. He loved them. I do not read anywhere in scripture where He told anyone that if they did not change they were going to Hell. He did not point out faults and flaws that they had. He went and ate with them and He spent time with them. Now when we look at the church of that time and its religious leaders we see a similarity to our churches today. They got upset because He was with the sinners and it did not look good for the church.
This brings me to another point. We simply cannot wait for the people to walk in and sit in the pews. We have to go out and get them. Isn't that the whole point of the Great Commission. It says Go ye therefore...I do not see an option in the phrasing. I see a command from the Lord to go out and get the people. We can pray that our church will be filled, but until we reach out with the love of Jesus I think that those prayers are in vain.
We must overcome the feelings of being holier than thou and remember unless someone reached out to us, we would be the same as the sinner we judge. These people need to feel the love of God to be drawn to it. That is where the church comes in. They are to take that love and go outside of the four walls of the church and let that love be felt. Go to the people and live a lifestyle that makes them see love. By being an instrument of grace, and letting God's love go before us, people will be more receptive to hear the word of God. Too many times we choose to attack the sins that they are committing thereby turning them off.
Jesus was humble. He walked in humility. He put others first at all times and that is the key. Dare to put that sinner above you and be his servant. If we go with this attitude, watch and see how the church will grow.
