Whilst the release date for T-Mobile’s G2 Touch handset still isn’t known, there have been a number of previews and press releases advising the market what to expect from this exciting new smart phone.
Like the G1, the G2 Touch is built by HTC and features a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath the phone when required. The similarities end there, however, as the G2 boasts a number of new features and applications that have fans of the G1 salivating.
♦ Faster speeds for surfing and downloading ♦
The handset is fully compatible with T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G network in the US, offering increased download speeds compared to the iPhone’s 3G-network coverage. The T-Mobile network provides coverage for 100 million Americans across more than 55 major cities. The G2 is powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 800MHz core processor and an updated Adreno GPU. The combined power of the two equals the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S and the Motorola Droid smart phones.
♦ Fully optimized for Google ♦
The G2 will run the new Android 2.2. operating system and is the first smart phone to come with Google Voice as standard. The G2 is fully optimized for all Google applications and enhances a number of the most popular ones to provide new features and capabilities. With Google Maps and HTC Footprints, for example, you can book mark places of interest and share them with your friends in a manner that replicates the way in which you can add Tips to a Foursquare account. The handset is also one of the first smart phones on the market to offer Voice Actions as part of Google Search, enabling you to carry out the most common commands without even touching the handset.
♦ Access and manage over 80,000 apps ♦
Like any other Android handset, the G2 will have access to thousands of applications at the Android Market but features a unique customisable interface that allows the user to manage up to seven different home pages. With the G2, you will be able to have a home page for all your social networking accounts, a screen for managing your music, a screen for managing all your applications and so on.
♦ A unified address book for all your contacts ♦
The handset manages your contacts in a more complete manner, by presenting ALL contacts from a user on one screen. At a glance, you can see when your friends called, the SMS messages and emails that they
