Want an inexpensive Halloween costume that you can easily make?  Make a witch costume using a black trash bag, black construction paper, scissors and tape.  You will have a costume in minutes with barely any work.

Materials needed:

• Black trash bag / Yard bag for tall adults

• Black construction paper

• Scissors

• Tape

• Glue

Take a black trash bag to make the witch’s dress.  You will need to decide which size trash bag to use based on how tall the wearer is.  There will not be a problem using a trash bag that is too long for the wearer because you will be cutting it.  The first thing you will want to do is to cut the head hole and the arms out of the trash bag.  Then, the wearer can try the trash bag on for size to see how much of the bag will need to be cut.

Cut the bottom of the trash bag off in zig zags or v-shapes.  The bottom of the witch’s dress should have v-shaped edges.  The part of the bag that was cut off can be used as the witch’s belt.  You can cut the belt so it will have straight edges and then tie it onto the dress.  This will help give the witch’s dress, made out of a trash bag, shape.  You can pull on the trash bag to make it hang the way it looks best.

Next, you will need to make a witch’s hat.  You can make the hat with the black construction paper.  You need one piece of black construction paper to make the band out of and the other piece of black construction paper to make the cone from.  Cut the band out of the paper that will sit on the wearer’s head.  Next, role the other piece of construction paper into a cone shape.  Once you have a cone shape you will want to make slits in the cone about half an inch up the cone.  Once you have the slits you will bend them to be perpendicular to the cone shape.  You use the bent slits and tape them to the band on the underneath side of the band.  The cone will sit on top of the hat band without falling off.

Now that the hat is made you can either leave it as the black construction paper, or you can take trash bag material and cover the hat.  If you are going to use the trash bag material over the hat, it should be attached to the hat before the cone slits are cut.  You might want to leave the area that the slits are going to be cut free of the trash bag material.  The hat will look neater.  The band can be wrapped in the trash bag material and the bag can be glued onto the band so there will not be tape showing.

Finally, the shoes.  The witch’s shoes can be trash bag material wrapped around the wearer’s shoes.  This will make the witch costume complete.
