There are many natural remedies for sore throats. One natural remedy is called agrimony. Agrimony is a plant that is native to North America and Africa. This herb was popularly used in herbal medicine in Greece and the United States. This herb has a long history behind it's name. Long ago it was called "all heal." It was very popular in Greece where it was useful in treating many ailments. The Greeks once used this herb for treating gallbladder disease, liver disease, athlete's foot, and kidney disease.

In the United States, in herbal medicine, agrimony is used to treat sore throats, asthma, and coughs. It was also prescribed for treating skin diseases and menstrual cramps. This herb is considered to be safe because it is known to have no narcotic properties. Long ago many people believed it was a cure for insomnia because when a piece of the plant was placed under a person's pillow the person would fall into a deep restful sleep. The person would continue to sleep as long as the plant is not removed. As with using any herb for a dietary supplement or a remedy for health ailments you should always seek the advice of an expert. Some herbs may interfere with certain prescribed medications or if mixed with other herbs.

There are many herbs that are beneficial to your health in the winter months. These herbs are known to help fight winter illnesses. Most winter herbs can be planted in pots and can be grown inside as long as they are near a window where they can recieve sunlight. They are also very useful in seasoning foods. Most herbs contain a high amount of vitamin C which is great for colds, coughs and sore throats. There are seven most important herbs that are useful for winter illnesses such as the flu and they are thyme, parsley, sage, chervil, oregano, yarrow and hyssop. The ones that are helpful in healing sore throats are agrimony, sage, and parsley. Some of the herbs have a very strong taste and are often mixed with peppermint to tone down their strong flavor.

Winter herbs love the cold winter temperatures and can be grown inside or outside. Some are even used for decorative purposes and for their fragrance. Some herbs can be easily confused with others so it is always best to seek the advice of an expert. Some herbs can be purchased in a capsule.
