For some people, getting into the Christmas spirit is easy. For others, it is easier said than done. Here are some tips to get in the mood for the Christmas season.
Indulge in seasonal foods and drinks. Starbucks puts seasonal drinks on their menu in the fall. Flavors such as egg nog lattes and peppermint mochas can easily put a coffee drinker in the Christmas spirit.
Go to a local store or mall. Many stores start putting out Christmas merchandise in October. Get an early start picking up decorations and wrapping paper. Getting the best selection possible and beating the holiday rush are two ways to start getting in the mood.
Buy some new Christmas ornaments. Hallmark puts them in their stores as early as the beginning of October in some cases. Pick up one new ornament every year and try to pick one that means something significant. For example, a teacher may get an ornament that says “World’s Best Teacher.” Anyone recently married may pick up an “our first Christmas,” ornament.
Use scented candles around the house to capture favorite Christmas scents. Whether it is gingerbread, peppermint, or sugar cookies, the house will soon smell like it is ready for Christmas.
Make some seasonal treats. The smells of fruitcake, pumpkin pie, or Christmas cookies can inspire a feeling of excitement about the upcoming holiday season. Many people who don’t bake the rest of the year do enjoy baking seasonal goodies.
Listen to Christmas music. Keeping a Christmas CD to listen to on the way to work or while running errands can help get some people into the Christmas spirit. Play Christmas music at home while working around the house. It’s a relaxing way to make those pesky chores seem a little less dull.
Watch traditional Christmas movies. Some popular choices are “A Christmas Story,” “White Christmas,” and “It’s A Wonderful Life.” These timeless classics can put even the most reluctant person in the mood for Christmas.
Get a part time seasonal job during the holiday season. Seeing others doing their Christmas shopping and getting excited about the holiday can be contagious. There is also the added benefit of knowing when merchandise is coming in and being able to get a discount on it.
These are fun and easy ways to get in the mood for Christmas. Doing all of these or any combination of them is a very good start.
