Chamomile is used to treat a wide range of ailments and is perhaps the most versatile of herbs. Chamomile has been used for generations and is considered to be nature's cure all. Traditionally, the herb is used to treat various skin conditions and irritations.
There are two different types of Camomile that is generally used for medicinal purposes. These are German Camomile and Roman Camomile. Roman camomile is perhaps the most popular out of the two. The flower of the plant is what is used in herbal treatments. Camomile is found in parts of Asia and all around Europe where it grows wild.
Camomile lotion is best used to treat skin conditions. It has been known to treat and soothe acne, eczema, rashes and other skin conditions. It can also be used to ease itch associated with insect bites and stings as well as the chickenpox.
Camomile tea is extremely efficient at combating stress and stress related symptoms, anxiety and nervousness at it contains calming properties. Camomile has also been known to help those who suffer with insomnia. Camomile also assists with digestive problems. It is said to ease the symptoms of indigestion and heartburn. Camomile is used to treat stomach ulcers, flatulence, constipation and diarrhoea.
Camomile has antiseptic properties which is useful for treating minor abrasions, scrapes and wounds. Camomile has been known to be beneficial for those who suffer with arthritis and rheumatism. It is excellent for relieving joint pain and muscular aches and pains.
Camomile can also be used to ease the symptoms of colds and flu's, it has been known to relieve sore throats and pain associated with tonsillitis. It is also an excellent pain reliever for headaches, toothaches and menstrual pains.
Camomile is also a useful herb for purifying the blood and flushing toxins and free radicals from the body.
Camomile is useful for treating a whole range of other ailments including:
Bruising
Burns
Ulcers
PMS
Inflammation
Lowering fevers
Bad breath
Bladder weakness
Colic
Diuretic
Sinus inflammation
Coughs
Swollen lymph glands
Nerve pain
Chamomile comes in the form of a lotion or ointment, as tea, tincture or as a liquid extract. There are no side effects associated with camomile, although some people have been known to experience allergic reactions after using the lotion or drinking the tea. Reactions include dizziness, itching, rash and swelling. Mothers who are breastfeeding their infants should avoid using camomile.
