Sonic is a fast food restaurant that is most popular in the Southern, United States.  They are a car hop type fast food restaurant.  What that means is you are not able to go inside to dine or purchase your food. 

There was a Sonic just recently built in the small town I live in.  It opened fall of 2010.  They were so crowded for three days you couldn't even get into the parking lot.  Traffic was backed up the highway people were coming from the tri-state area just to eat at our new Sonic! 

The amazing thing is you pull up and park your car into one of the covered bays and you have a menu to your right and place your order.  Someone brings your food out to you and they may be wearing roller skates.  Some of the servers are really good on their skates and offer you a show.  They skate backwards and generally very well. 

As I said before you can not dine in but they do have a patio where you can sit and eat which is also covered.  You place your order at the menu stand and then one of the servers brings out your food, of course on skates.  From what I understand they do pay the servers who skate a little more than those who do not.   The food is good and the service is excellent for fast food. 

If you choose to sit in your car and eat you will have music to listen to and can request songs that you like as well.  Of course, you still have the drive through as an option if you are in a hurry and just want to grab something and get back on the road.   It does seem a little bit dangerous for the servers as I have seen some of them fall when skating.  Some are not as good as others and they are carry trays of food while skating. 

On our last visit there I was talking with one of the servers and she said a couple of the other servers where out with broken arms from falling while skating.  I ask what happens when winter comes I sure hope that they aren't going to try and skate then.  I bet the drive through will be the area that gets all the business. If you have never been to a Sonic and happen to come across one you should give it a try.  Sure beats McDonalds and Burger King. The service is wonderful and so are the staff.
