The Kind Diet is a book written by the actress (kinda) Alicia Silverstone. The book itself focuses on the negative sides of eating processed foods and focuses on a much more natural approach to dieting and eating. Rather than simply being a diet the book quickly becomes more of a lifestyle with Silverstone stressing a much more long term approach to eating than simply a couple of months worth of dieting. If nothing else, this is definitely not a diet by the means of something that helps you lose weight, but a diet in terms of what you consume on a regular basis.
The book strangely enough has quite a bit of helpful information for someone that is looking to take on a Vegan lifestyle. Rather than just throwing together a bunch of crap like most celebrities she really took the time to do the research necessary in order to write a somewhat complete book on the transformation from an animal diet to one that is completely plant related.
CONCEPTS
One of the biggest concepts in the book is that the use of animals in our diets has become a major problem worldwide in numerous ways. Not only has it caused a great number of us to gain weight and has led to huge amounts of obesity but animals take up a great deal of land that we could be using for much more sustainable plant based foods.
Silverstone talks about the transformation in a way that doesn't take you immediately dropping meat from your diet in a day. This of course makes the diet much easier than a typical transformation that you would see from most books. She talks about taking it a day at a time and decreasing the amount of meat that you consume until you are no longer consuming any meat at all.
In the book Silverstone stresses that by slowing eliminating meat you are going to be able to better see the results of a plant based diet and are going to notice that your skin is smoother, you are going to notice more energy, and you are probably just going to feel better overall. It also makes the transition a lot easier as you learn how to make new foods that don't involve meat and find alternative ways of eating.
She not only talks about what it takes to become a Vegan at home but also what you need to do in order to be Vegan when you go out to eat which is often times much more complicated. The idea is a complete transformation of your life in order to meet the expectations of the Vegan lifestyle.
