Autumn, At Water’s Edge
Along the rock-bound coastline,
Autumnal hills blaze forth in fiery splendor,
Their crimsons, golds, and greens
Against an azure sky.
Mirror-still, the waters
Lap gently against the craggy coastal cliffs
And reflect upon their surface
The leafy conflagration of the hills.
And I, in awe, gaze seaward
Toward ocean's panorama.
And golden sunbeams, streaming,
Illuminate the pathways of my eyes.
I close my eyes
And hear the whispers of creation.
The waters' gentle gurgle, the sea gulls' plaintive crying,
And silence, gentle silence...
...And I am home.
