A wreath on your door is a great way to greet the seasons, holidays and your visitor’s. Every wreath is unique, each is beautiful in its own right and most can be re-created inexpensively.  Look through magazines and stores for an idea of a wreath you would like to make. Decide what materials you would like to use and what type of base will best suit your needs. For the base of your fall wreath, you will use either a wire frame, Styrofoam wreath, grapevine wreath or a green wreath. Final additions for your wreath can include pinecones, artificial fall flowers, miniature fall decorations and small wooden plaques.

A wire wreath gives you so many options for decorating the possibilities are endless. Attach miniature bales of hay, artificial leaves and flowers or greenery  to cover the entire surface. Adorn it with smaller artificial flowers, little scarecrows or artificial fall vegetables. Create a one-of-a-kind by covering the wire base with miniature artificial Indian corn. Hang a bow and simple plaque from the top center and add a hanger. You can also cover the frame with pinecones and artificial berries.

Starting with a Styrofoam base, tissue paper, pencils, white glue and your children, we will create a truly unique wreath. Be sure to only make this for a front door that is protected from the weather by a covered or enclosed porch. Choose tissue paper in fall colors of red, gold orange and green. Cut the tissue paper into two-inch squares and demonstrate how to apply a few pieces for your kids. Twist a piece around the eraser end of the pencil, dip in glue and stick it on the base.

To begin with, have them only cover about a half to two-thirds of the base. Finish it off by inserting the ends of individual flowers into the bare space. Add a few whimsical decorations and a hanger before moving onto the grapevine or green wreath. Adorn a third of the new wreath with artificial flowers, pinecones or small decorations. Attach your items with a hot glue gun, fish line or thin wire. Add a bow, perhaps a small, hand-painted welcome plaque, and your ready to hang it.

Any combination of these ideas is acceptable when creating your fall wreath. You are making this wreath and therefore whatever feels right to you is perfect for your front door. Add a few small artificial flowers to your pinecone wreath for an extra pop of color. Throw in a few leaves anywhere you have flowers. Adorn a hay bale wreath with small plaques with cute, fall-like sayings or greetings. You can also make a beautiful wreath with wide ribbon and a wire frame.

Wrap two ribbons in a braided pattern around the frame, ending with a simple bow at the top center. Glue a welcome plaque to the front bottom center. Attach an arrangement of small, artificial flowers or pumpkins at each end of the plaque and a small scarecrow above one end. Another wreath done. It is not hard to make a fall wreath for your front door and hopefully these ideas inspire you to create one for your door.
