There are many benefits of Peppermint and the herb is widely used all around the world today as an culinary herb as well as for medicinal purposes. The main active ingredient in Peppermint is menthol. Menthol contains stimulating properties as it is an actual form of alcohol. Peppermint has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes.

Peppermint is especially beneficial for digestive ailments or to improve digestion. Peppermint aids in digesting fatty foods and is known to be effective at treating flatulence. When peppermint is taken regularly as a tea, it is said to improve and strengthen liver function. Peppermint has been known to ease the sensations of heartburn and indigestion and the herb has been known to help those who are suffering with gastro and diarrhoea. Peppermint has also been known to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Not only is peppermint beneficial for the digestive system but it is also beneficial in the treatment of muscular aches and pains as it improves blood circulation. Peppermint is also beneficial in treating viral infections such as colds and flu's as it acts as a very strong decongestant. Peppermint is widely used to lower fevers.

Peppermint is effective at boosting the immune system and it has been said that the herb can also calm the feeling of anger, hysteria or mental fatigue. It is also beneficial for treating those who feel emotionally drained during periods of high stress.

Peppermint is excellent at relieving headaches and aids in improving concentration and making the mind “sharper.”

Peppermint oil is effective at soothing tired and sore feet. By adding a few drops into warm water, it makes a perfect and refreshing foot spa after a hard days work.

The herb when drunk as a tea is quite useful at relieving the symptoms of hangovers. By applying peppermint oil to the forehead and temples, it can ease headaches and nausea caused by too much alcohol consumption. Peppermint has been known to ease the symptoms of stress and nervous tension.

It is quite useful to keep a pack of peppermint tea in the pantry or a bottle of neat (blended with a carrier oil) in the medicine cabinet as it has many uses and is extremely beneficial to the mind and body.

WARNINGS: Peppermint oil should be used with caution. It is not recommended for those who have sensitive skin as it can cause skin irritations. Peppermint is not recommended for children under the age of twelve.
