Ray Stevens sang
A little song*
About a church
Where much was wrong.
One day, to put them in a twirl
The Lord decided
To send a squirrel.
The squirrel got in
And ran amuck
Tried to get out
But he was stuck.
He jumped around
From pew to pew
And sins exposed
To full plain view.
The people all dropped
To their knees
And prayed the Lord would help them, please.
From gossipping they would repent
If He'd take back the squirrel He sent.
They woudn't judge, nor be a snob
Christian love would be their job.
Gentle reader, the message hear
I beg you, heed a warning clear
For if you sit smug in your pew
A squirrel may come
To a church near you.
