Pain is the highway to truth
Its hurting but I should carry on
I look over my shoulder
To find an enemy to fight
Or a friend's shoulder to cry on
The lonely roads behind and ahead
Yawn, bored and merciless
With bleeding heart I walk on
Pain is the highway to truth
Its hurting but I should carry on
I always thought we were in it together
The battles, the victories, the losses
And the sorrows were common
I saw you writhing alone
In agony I did not understand
I saw love turning to hate
And hate into withering contempt
Well somewhere along the road I caught on
Pain is the highway to truth
Its hurting but I should carry on.
The sadness and pathos
Creeps up very quietly
Hope turns to despair
Yet somehow the logic starts revealing itself
When the mind is numb with pain
And the lessons come relentlessly
And deceptions rain thick and fast
When all around you the lies multiply
The truth is being born.
Pain is the highway to truth
Its hurting but I should carry on.
The feeling of being alive
Of being part of this mega con
Comes from the pain
Which is pouring out of every cell
The aging, tired body
The eyes that refuse to cry
The heart which is stiff with abuse
And the soul which is seared blue
Well thanks I will manage myself from here
With helping hands I am done
Pain is the highway to truth
Its hurting but I should carry on.
