Twitter is becoming increasingly more important as a communication tool for businesses.  As more people rely on it for quick messages, the site is only become a better vehicle for marketing than it ever was before.  With this increase in marketing appeal Twitter is starting to see a large influx in users that are utilizing the site for those marketing purposes.

One of the most common things that we're starting to see on Twitter is the building of personal brands.  Developing a personal brand is when someone takes advantage of their appeal in order to market products or their own person.  This could be done for a variety of reasons, but ultimately the focus is the same, to obtain as many followers as possibly so that your message can be seen by as many people as possible.  We are seeing even the most famous of people using Twitter now to build their own brands, including Kim Kardashian who has managed to turn tweeting into a substantial business where she gets paid to send out tweets to her followers.  While most aren't going to make the thousands of dollars tweeting that Kim Kardashian does, Twitter can still provide you with an audience that could get your band noticed, could get you booked for standup comedy, could help you sell your newly published book, etc.  The hardest part is getting your account established so that you can make it all happen.

GETTING STARTED
Before you can become a major name on Twitter, you have to have an account.  The process is relatively simple compared to most other sites and requires only the most basic information.  After a confirmation email and the setup of your page to look a little more personal with some pictures you are ready to start building up your brand.

The most important aspect of building your brand is to know WHY you are building your brand.  Are you simply trying to become more popular, are you trying to sell something, or are you trying to get noticed so you can accomplish something?  Once you know your ultimate goal of becoming a Twitter God/Goddess you can start working on building your following.  The following is going to be the most important thing towards building your personal brand.  The more people that are following you, the more likely your message will be seen and the more likely you'll see the benefits of it.
