It’s safe to assume that most people think rainy days are undesirable. There’s no question that many planned activities have needed to be postponed or altered due to rainy weather. Unless there is a drought or the flowers and plants are dying due to insufficient water, it is very rare to know of someone who wishes for a rainy day.
When Mother Nature does declare a rainy day, well, either you can grin and bear it or make the best of it. For some people, making the best of a rainy day means, staying in bed snuggling a blanket and watching a movie is an option. On the other hand, many people may want to take advantage of completing household tasks that have been ignored during the “sunny days!”
Perhaps there are no lingering household chores and perhaps you feel that staying in bed despite the rain is a wasted day then you may be more interested in an activity that you normally don’t have a chance to do.
Some of the best activities for a rainy day involve things you truly love to do but never have time to do them. This may include baking. Whether its homemade cookies, pies, or some type of desert there’s nothing like baking comforting foods on a disastrous rainy day. While in the kitchen, perhaps even cooking several meals for the upcoming week sounds appetizing in the fact that it will take less pressure off your hectic schedule later.
Rainy days are great days spend time enjoying a favorite hobby or even start a new one! Just by trying a new hobby you may discover a hidden talent you possess. Some good hobbies to try are; scrapbooking, card making, reading a good book, painting, soap making, sewing, and jewelry making. Be sure to have a pre-purchased kit waiting in the closet just for a rainy day!
If you feel as if you have been out of touch with family and friends, use a rainy day to your advantage. Make some phone calls! Get up to date with real life happenings in the lives of those who you care about the most. Make plans to meet for lunch or offer to have a brunch in your own home.
Spending quality time with your children on a rainy day is not only rewarding in its own way but it also makes children feel special. Spend hours playing games, making crafts, baking together, and coloring; whatever it is remember these moments make lasting memories.
The next time you are forced to encounter a rainy day perhaps it can be viewed more as a blessing rather than a nuisance.
