With so many people on the internet it is becoming more important than ever that a company have a professional web presence that truly reflects the company and their offerings. In the past a company could get away with a much more general website but now with more people using the internet to find information a company is best served by having a professional designed completed website. This would of course mean having full contact information to a section that tells potential customers more about the company itself. With the ability for customers to easily shop around it has become more important than ever for a company to tell their story and tell consumers why they are the company that should get their business. This is done through the creation of an "about us" page.
The about us page is nothing more than a simple page within a website that gives details about the company. It could be a really basic one that gives general information about what a company does or could be a much more advanced and include considerable more detail about the company. A website that shows that they don't have anything to hide and that they are proud of their history is typically going to benefit from the most from having an "about us" page. A good page should include the history of the company, have the company mission statement, have pictures of locations, have some bios of some of the management, and maybe even have some employees on the site as well. The better job a company does at portraying their company as a friendly company the better off they are going to do. This is especially the case with family businesses that typically survive on their family name.
It is important in the about us page that the company consider it a form of marketing. This is going to tell the story of how the company came to be and could determine whether or not a consumer purchases from the company. It would be best that the page simply talk about the company, the employees, and of course their commitment to their customers. I also advise against adding religious affiliations on the about me page unless that is the focus of the company. Far too often companies are proud of their affiliations but when they are on the internet it could make other groups feel uncomfortable with doing business with them. If it isn't necessary to talk about, it should be left off the page. While it is great to talk about the company and the accomplishments of the company, it is important to leave the unnecessary details out.
Most websites that are professionally designed come with an about me page already in place. Many coders will add a generic page so that it is already in place if the company wishes to have one later one. If the company doesn't have an about me page it shouldn't take a great deal of effort in order to create one. Depending on the type of coding that was used to create the site, it would most likely cost a company a few hundred dollars to add an about me page to an existing site. If the site is in development the simple addition of an about me page shouldn't cost any additional money and if so it should be minimal at most.
