Making gold in any game is important as it provides the character with financial stability. Usually one goes about grinding and killing monsters to get currency (gold) in other games and (for the most part) it works out well enough. In Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion there are much more and much better ways to receive some extra cash! There are a couple of methods i will briefly go over in this short (but awesome) guide!
Killing things
The first of these methods was already mentioned above, to kill things! Well it's pretty simple, just go around and hack 'n slash things until they're dead. Once you've taken out your enemy just loot the body and sell the items. Pretty self explanatory.
Alchemy
Next is the method that i usually use throughout the game (that is if i'm not to busy using the duplication glitch) alchemy! This is one that is tough to master, pretty much you go around and buy ingredients from all the inns and alchemy stores. Next just go into the alchemy screen by clicking on any of the alchemy tools (pestle and motor for example) and making potions from what you had.just bought. Simply sell the potions and make profit (usually ingredients go from 2gold each and potions sells for about 10gold when your alchemy is low level). As you level up your alchemy the profit margin greatly increase from about 6gold per potion (takes 2 ingredients until level 100) to around 50gold per ingredient!
Stealing
With this method you just go around and take whatever you want to! A nice sword on the shelf? Take it! The governing attribute that affects this skill is sneak, so if you want to only do this make sure you level your sneak skill up to more easily get the "five finger discount" on the selected item that you wish to obtain. Then all you have to do is go to a different city and sell it! Problem solved. Out of all the methods this one is the most fun, but also the least profitable, still, that being said it is really great when you get the hang of it! I recommend everyone at least trying to steal in Oblivion!
These are just three ways to earn gold in Oblivion (out of an almost infinite ways). If your still having trouble with money, just give it time! When you level up the game gets easier and the drops become more valuable! So just stick at it and have fun!
