Building a personal brand on Twitter seems much more difficult than it really is if you haven't tried it.  By committing to building your personal brand on the Twitter platform, you are making the choice to explore new media and use it to your advantage.  What you need is a clear focus, a bit of time, and the ability to do basic research to gain new followers to support your brand.

To build a personal brand on Twitter, there are three main steps to follow to get your brand up and running:

1.  The first thing you need to do to build your personal brand on Twitter is develop a clear focus for that brand.  Establish up front what elements of your personal or professional life are off limits for conversation, and write down the top five qualities of your personal brand that you want to promote.  This will help guide you as you construct your tweets to ensure that each message is within your brand parameters and pushing your personal brand forward on Twitter.

2.  The next thing you will need is time.  Brand building on Twitter can be time consuming.  You will need to budget time to tweet two to three times daily, and also budget time to check on your news feed to see what conversations are happening that you might want to join.  For many people, it will be necessary to devote at least 20 - 30 minutes daily to building a personal brand on Twitter.  Your time commitments may be greater depending on how much tweeting you would like to do and how much time you spend participating in conversations.

3.  The third thing you with need to do to build your personal brand on Twitter is actively seek new followers through research.  To find new followers on Twitter, you need to search for people talking about the things that are relevant to your personal brand.  Use the search function to find them, then check them out.  If you like them, follow them.  Many people on Twitter will follow you back if you follow them, at least for a while.  This helps you reach new audiences, win over new followers, and build up a base of people who are interested in your personal brand on Twitter.

These three tips take the idea of how to build a personal brand on Twitter and break it down into its most basic steps.  You will find many more complex explanations on the web, but this is the very essence of what you need to do to improve your web presence and personal brand online with Twitter.  Get going now to see results tomorrow!
