He steps on to the field
Small and timid, a child.
Bright lights glare down,
The crowd rises to their feet,
Wonder enters his eye.
The whistle blows,
Time counts down,
Monsters threaten at the line.
The ball is hiked,
He steps back,
All the world is waiting.
Pressure mounts,
He can’t seem to breath,
A deafening roar erupts.
He rears back,
Launches the ball,
Silence permeates the air.
The ball is caught,
The battle is won,
The giants are defeated.
Now, back through the tunnel,
And into the locker room,
A boy has become a man.
