September is the new June when it comes to planning your wedding. The fall is becoming a more and more popular time of year to have a wedding. The beautiful fall colors, the foliage, the crisp autumn weather all combine to create the perfect scenery for your special day. However, if you are planning an outdoor fall wedding, there are several things you need to consider during your planning process.
First off, you need to have a contingency plan just in case the weather decides not to cooperate with your wedding plans. Ideally, you will have a beautiful fall day and everything will be as perfect as you have envisioned it, but you have to come up with a back up plan just in case. Mother Nature is not always on the same page and she may have other plans for the big day. Make sure that you have a tent or an indoor option you can go to if the weather is horrible. Fall is also hurricane season, so you need to know that if your wedding day lands in the eye of a storm, you will not be completely stranded with no workable contingency plan.
Even if you get beautiful fall weather, it will inevitably cool off as the sun starts to set. Make sure that you have the ability to either move indoors or control the temperature in other ways. Perhaps you might want to consider renting large space heaters to make sure that your guests are able to comfortably enjoy the celebration.
You should also take the hours of daylight into consideration. In the summer it stays light outside well into the evening, but in the fall the days begin to get shorter and shorter. The sun sets earlier each day and you need to make sure you plan accordingly. Plan your ceremony and reception early enough so that you have at least a few hours of daylight before you are totally in the dark. This way it stays light out for your ceremony and your pictures.
Fall can paint a beautiful backdrop for your outdoor wedding, but you have to be able to roll with the punches. It is not quite as predictable a season as summer or late spring in terms of weather, particularly in places where fall is especially beautiful like New England. Make sure that you have a safety net to fall back on if your perfect outdoor fall wedding plans are spoiled by the weather.
