Created on: September 28, 2010

It is a cherished moment when a parent gazes into the eyes of their newborn. This celebratory time is frequently pondered during the preparatory months. Detailed planning, self care, and preparation are part of the experiences that lead up to this most anticipated moment. Getting ready for the birth of a newborn will not only ease the transition when the baby arrives, but it will joyously immerse the home into babyhood.

*Preparation

Growing a baby is difficult work that requires rest and rejuvenation. An inventory may determine if the timing is right to prepare the home for a new baby. The preparation will be enjoyed the most if it is done with a rested frame of mind. Pick up catalogs, peruse Babies R US, enjoy pregnancy reading and talk with new parents to gain insight and ideas. Determine what is still needed after the baby showers are given to apply gift card purchases. Also, make plans for those last items that need purchasing off the registry. Get assistance with gathering the extra items if needed. Sort, unwrap, clean and place each item that is received in the spot where it will be used.

*Nursery

Pick the room that will be easily accessible in the middle of the night and accommodate the essential nursery room items. Remove any storage items that rest there and get the room emptied out to make a cozy spot for your baby. Cleaning the room and the carpet will start everything off fresh. If the plan is to paint the room, pick colors and assign someone to do the painting. When your baby arrives; the room will start off clean and ready for use. This room will be an important addition to the home where many hours will be spent in the first year. Setting up a feeding station in the room and in the family room areas will ensure comfort for both mom and baby during these times. Items for a feeding station might include comfortable seating, nursing pillow, Kleenex, water, and soft blanket. This spot will soon become functional as well as nurturing.

*Furniture

White painted and various wood stain versions are available for baby furniture. Determine the amount of space available and the items that are desired. Personal preference is the key factor in finding furniture that is just right. Starting out simple might be the plan which could involve a combination of dresser, crib or bassinet and changing table. Setting the room up while keeping safety in mind will ensure that the crib is away from the window, cords are not dangling from blinds, outlets are covered,
