How to find the perfect wedding dress

Created on: September 28, 2010

The hunt for the wedding dress is often the most fun and tedious process of planning the dream wedding. It is a dress that most women have thought about or dreamed of wearing at some point of time in their lives and so the expectation is high to find the perfect one. This can take the fun out of the process, turning it into a stressful event instead. Fear not, as the few simple tips below will help to tweak your focus and help you to zero in on the right one.

1. Do your Research.

Start off with flipping through all the bridal magazines in your stash. Take note of the ones that you like. You will soon notice that you will show more preference towards one style or material. This helps you to determine your initial preference and help you to identify the bridal shops you should visit. You will notice that bridal boutiques like designer boutiques are not so different. Some will be reputed for lace gowns, others for their fine laser like cutting and lines, another maybe for exquisite embroidery. When you have matched your preferences to the boutiques that offer what you like, make an appointment to visit them. Do try and not overwhelm yourself with too many choices. Keep the first round of shopping to 5 boutiques and look up more only if you still cannot find what you like.

2. Make an Appointment.

An appointment is always preferred at Bridal Studios. This allows the sales member to spend time with you understanding your needs and it also gives you the space and time to try on designs at your pace. You should share with the sales assistant on your preferences so he/she may bring out designs that will most match your requirements. If you have the clippings of the pictures of the dresses you like, this is also the time to take it out and show it to them. At this stage, it is advisable to keep your friends out of this as too many opinions might confuse you. You need to first form your own opinions before listening to others.

3. Try the basic shapes of wedding dresses

If you are trying on wedding gowns for the very first time, I strongly recommend that you try dresses of all the possible shapes. The basic ones to try first is the big pouffy one that they like to call the the ballroom gown, the mermaid dress and the A line dress. This allows you to decide if the dress of your dream could work for your body. If you are small and petite, the voluminous pouffy dress might overwhelm you, similarly, if you have wider hips and big thighs, the form fitting mermaid
