All self-help books point out the need to set goals. Without goals life is a meaningless jumble of day to day events that do nothing more than pass time until the moment of death. There's more to life than working for a paycheck. Those who consistently set goals achieve far more wealth and happiness than those who lead an undisciplined and aimless life.
Today's halls of learning help teach you about making a living. Unfortunately, few emphasize the need to learn how to live. You can acquire wealth beyond belief, but if you're not happy, you are poor no matter how much money you possess.
The economic state of the world today is a direct result of the fulfillment of goals. The technological and medical marvels of the past hundred years proves how setting goals can lead to a richer life for everyone. Unfortunately, the development of individual and national goals have left out the setting of spiritual goals. While the material advances have been spectacular, most everyone still live as spiritual infants, never having grown since the dawn of history.
Financial goals are important, but they need to be balanced with spiritual and mental development. Since no one can live in a shell, they must interact with others if they are to see any kind of progress. And setting the right goals will help develop character and the discipline need to reach them. Here are some points to keep in mind while you're busy reaching your goals:
Goal Realization is Based on Your Interaction with Others
Nothing can be achieved without trust. Communication is a key that helps achieve goals. Reliance on others who have skills you lack means that you must set aside differences and biases toward race, religion, sex or language. To solve today's economic woes means you need to work in a group environment.
Reach Your Goal by Filling a Need
There are thousands of ways to reach a goal. Yet goals boil down to the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. Everyone desires to live in peace and freedom. The only road to success is by filling those basic needs without trampling on the rights of others just to make a quick profit. You can have success, no matter what road takes you there.
Realize the Ultimate Purpose of Life
Setting personal goals are important as they provide a reason for living. Like the majority, you are likely to make the mistake of becoming overwhelmed by your success and become vain, filled with the lust for power. Selfishness sets in and you forget that sharing your wealth is better than hoarding it. Andrew Carnegie and many of the rich men and women of yesteryear saw themselves as mere custodians of wealth. So they gave back to the community. Bill Gates is among the top philanthropists who gives out millions for charity.
Set Out a Plan
Likely you know what you want from life. But you haven't taken any time to set down the steps to reach your goals. Achievement comes from breaking down big goal to easily managed parts. Mapping the steps on paper makes the goal real. Planning increases the drive and enthusiasm necessary for achievement. Putting up a time frame for the achievement of every small goal lets you monitor progress. It builds discipline.
Every dream can be realized through action. Most goals don't require a great outlay of capital. All that's required is the effort and the belief that success is possible. If your goal includes helping others along the way, you will have developed more spiritual character. And that's something everyone in this tired world needs to develop.
