Autumn fashion: Layers and scarves

Returning to wear our hats, scarves and gloves can be a burden for some. for others, a thrill. Either way we must dress up warm in the cold for the coming months.

Every year fashion changes. New designs of coats, shoes, gloves, scarves, to name only a few arrive on the High Street market. As with coats, there are so many variations of coats on the market that sometimes it is difficult to know where and when to stop looking. When you step into a store and you look at all the choices to buy. With all their button and bows, to zippers and poppers, toggles to tassels. The choice is endless.

Brand names are the major players when deciding on what to buy and what not to. Since many of the big brand names such as Morgan, Diesel, and many others have marvellous designs. But are usually too dear for some of our little pockets. Although, with coats, unless you can find a good second hand one, you only get what you pay for.

Have you seen the latest scarf fashion? To have a nice warm scarf for the coming season, for me it has to be soft and woolly. Not itchy and woolly. An itchy scarf is such a nightmare. As I am sure many of you would agree. We have all been there, trying to keep the scarf away from our skin to prevent a red, raw looking neck.

There are some people who wear two scarves. Especially when it gets really cold. One smaller and thinner scarf underneath. With a larger one on top.

My personal favorite has always been the hat. With so many variations you really cannot go wrong! From the woolly hat with the bobble on top, to the ones with tassels. Then there is the baker-boy style flat cap (my favorite!) Which is a similar style to the Italian Coppola. In this day and age, there are so many different hats for all ages and genders.

Now, gloves. Gloves, whether made for men, women or children come in so many different forms. They are even worse than the coat section for zippers and tassels. From mittens with fingers, mittens without fingers, gloves of all materials, warm and snug unisex gloves, I could go on and on.

The best way to keep warm during the colder months of the year is to wear a few thin layers, rather than loads of thick layers. The heat has to trap between the layers in order to keep the body warm. Which is the main criteria. This is were thermals and long-johns come in handy. They are made specifically to trap in heat bubbles to prevent heat from escaping through the clothes.
