Beginner basics for making money online using blogs

You are starting out trying to make a living writing online.   Somewhere you hear that there is a lot of money to be made in blogging.  Maybe from a guru.  Maybe from another MMO (make money online) blog.  Maybe even from your cousin Pat the Butcher from "down the block".  Before you go any further let me be upfront it is true that there IS

money to be made blogging; even a lot of it.  But doing it is not nearly as easy as people would have you believe.

I am going to give you the straight scoop.  All of the difficulties involved with MMO through blogging.  It can be done; do not let me dissuade you from trying.  But there is no magic button to spit wads of cash out through a blog.  For the first six months, unless you have a huge base of contacts and a lot of experience blogging all ready it is likely that you will spend more money than you will make.  If you are still reading let me get to the nitty gritty.

♦  Free Blogs to make money.

Using   Wordpress or  Blogger Blogs are great way to start.  But they are not great ways to make money.  If you want to play around they are great ways to do it.  They are free.  You can learn some nuances and not spend money doing it.  You can even go through steps like monetizing them once you start to get a few people visiting.  For long term though I cannot think a really successful free blog.  There are too many things about them that are not optimal.  I recommend them at first, just know that when you are ready you will need to transfer everything to a pay blog.  Luckily the cost of those is not great.

♦  The costs of a pay blog.

There are not many that are mandatory.  Just a domain name, which you want to match the niche keywords that you are targeting.  That is 5-10$ a year depending on the site.  Go Daddy (I am sure you have seen the commercials) is a big one that is fine.  The  you need hosting.  Hostgator is a popular one for that service.  There are other optional things like “Themes” an email hosting service like Aweber that will be needed in the long run, but do not get them until you have some traffic and know that you need them to do better.

♦  Content, Content Content

You will hear the phrase “Content is King” a lot.  This is true for a blog.  Very true.  You will not get much traffic
