How our faith helps us
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, for by it the elders obtained a good report (Hebrews11v1-2)There is in every one of us, a measure of faith, which if activated to the right level, can bring about tremendous help from God, who according to David in Psalm 46v1, is a present help in times of trouble. In the Epistle of 1st John 3v4, faith is seen as the weapon required to overcome the world, but what is it in the world that challenges every child of God?
What is in the world?
The answers can be found in the earlier chapter of the same book, that is chapter 2v15, which tells us the we should not love the world, nor the things which are in the world, because all that are in the world, are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. The lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life, is what brought Adam and Eve into the bondage of sin, and by extension, the whole human race to this very day. Galatians 5v19, list the works of the flesh as adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, variances, drunkenness, wrath strife, sedition, heresies, envying, murder, reveling, and such like. In the world the enemy will attack every child of God, using the lust of the flesh, pride of life and the lust of the eyes so that the evil works manifest these in these ungodly lifestyles, before ultimate death and destruction.
How Faith begins
However, faith which comes by hearing and believing the word of God will bring help beyond measure, because the word of God is like a seed which is planted in the earth, and if watered on a daily basis will grow to become a strong tree, that bears fruit in abundance.Jesus told his disciples, that if they have faith like a mustard seed, that can say to the mountain, be moved and be cast into the sea, it shall obey them. When the enemy of our souls comes in like a flood, faith in the written word of God, can bring about deliverance, similar to what the Lord encountered in his wilderness experience after forty days and nights of fasting and praying.
The Temptation
Jesus told him, it is written on all three occasions when he tried to attack by through lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life in St Matthew 4. The devil challenged him to turn stones into bread in order to feed his flesh, he showed and offered him the kingdoms of the world in a moment to bring about lust of the eyes, and finally, he
