If the truth is to be told, people generally don't know or want true inner peace, they want managed peace. Conflict, turmoil and chaos are normal parts of the human condition. This may or may not comes as a shock to you dear reader but my life experience has convinced me that the need and maybe the obligation to resist, to push back, to paradoxically fight for peace makes for a better us.
The need to find inner peace is not a driving human endeavor, it is for those who believe it is a need for themselves alone and must always be so. You cannot bring peace to others, it is a personal decision and one that requires commitment to not only find that elusive peace to maintain it . So how do we do it ? How can we put ourselves in that secret garden and find respite from exterior forces that intrude on our mind.
The first step is that people really don't care if you have inner peace or not and will not as a general rule make concessions in their life to accommodate you desires.
The second step is that your desire for peace must be stronger than your desire to accommodate others intrusions, by this I mean you must be firm enough to let others know you are putting up a barrier around yourself.
The third step is to fight off the temptation to think of others within the garden of your mind.
This preamble to seeking inner peace is completely necessary and without it you will fail in your attempts. Inner peace is the inflation of the ego to a level that super cedes all others, it overwhelms and suppresses all other egos that may blindly intrude upon your spirit, it is the focal point of of self that is conflict driven and conflict resolved.
All this above chatter I've written is predicated on the idea that you want inner peace and think it is good for you or necessary for your spiritual growth or for whatever reason a human mind can come up with, but all of it will be for naught if you cannot understand the underlying need for outside chaos to define the shape of your peace.
My interpretation of finding inner peace may be in conflict with the interpretation of others but it worked and continues to work for me, I have great confidence that you, dear reader, will also find that it works for you.
